Locating a species in a long list of taxon names is easy. For both scientific and vernacular names entering any combination of (a part) of a genus name, with or without (a part ) of the epitheton will deliver a number of options in the the drop-down control. A minimum of 7 characters, including a space between genus and epitheton, need to be entered in order to retrieve a selection of taxa in the drop-down list. However, it is also possible to use an asterisk ('*') or slash ('/'). In this case a minimum of one character is sufficient to pull out a number of possible taxa. In Chinese or Korean language one character, followed by a slash or asterisk will show a modest list of taxa.
Valid combinations are for example:
•Fa s
•F s
•Fag s
•Fagus s
Cases in which a few characters of the genus and one character of the epitheton will immediately provide a list of names that meet the condition. The latter is the most specific and will result in a short list.
Other options are the usage of '*' or even better '/'.
•Carex* (will deliver all taxa belong to the genus Carex)
•Care/ (will deliver all taxa which genus name starts with 'Care')
