Creating a new dataset is easy, but at least three entries are required. The only item that could be a problem is the taxon list. Starting with a completely new database there are no taxon lists available, except when starting with a Dutch database. To get a taxon list integrated in the database go to MANAGE, Taxon lists. Taxon lists can be downloaded from the cloud based SynBioSys taxon database. It is also possible to import a locally stored Turboveg2 species list (as dBase or Excel file).
A dataset also needs to be attached to a dataset group. A dataset group can be selected from the drop-down list. Go to Manage dataset groups if a new dataset group needs to be introduced. An existing name may also be changed into a more meaningful description
If no Profile is selected, a default (comprising the standard Turboveg2 data fields) is created with the same name as the dataset. Profiles can be managed via the Manage profiles menu option. Profiles are particularly important, because they define which fields and in which order they will appear in the data table and data forms.
Custodians and deputy custodians can be managed via de Manage custodian menu option.
Apart from adding text to the Metadata edit box it is also possible to connect a pdf file (and only one file) with meta information to the dataset. The pdf file can for example be a report concerning the dataset. The file will be stored in the database. It is also possible to replace a document or to remove a document.
