Comparison with Turboveg2

Turboveg3 differs in many aspects from Turboveg2. The most important differences are listed here.

All data is stored in a single SQL based file (SQLite), instead of being stored in hundreds of individual dBaseIII+ and index files.

The database is based on a robust model, capable of handling many different databases with many different database structures.

As far as European plot data concerns Turboveg3 supports multiple taxonomies, allowing data analyses over different taxonomies.

Data integrity is guaranteed by means of constraints and foreign keys.

Better support for null values (missing/empty values).

Turboveg3 has a sophisticated built-in GIS, supporting many different file formats and almost any coordinate system.

OpenStreetMap is integrated to pinpoint plot locations by means of points, lines and polygons.

Turboveg3 has comprehensive methods to query the data (including spatial constrains).

Native support (import/export) for Excel files (no need to have MS Excel installed).

History of data changes is preserved.

Turboveg3 databases are Unicode based, accepting any character set (e.g. Chinese, Arabic, and Russian character sets).

No direct support for Turboveg2 cover scales '98' and '99' for counts of individual species in a plot.
